I strongly recommend the late Stieg Larsson's trilogy:-
1-The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo 2-The Girl Who Played With Fire 3-The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet's Nest
They should be read in sequence. As an avid reader these are three of the best books I have read in years.
Other excellent books well worth a read are "The Shadow Of The Wind" and "The Angel's Game" by Carlos Luis Zafon.
Jeffrey Deaver has written quite a number of books, some of which have been made into films like "The Bone Collector" starring Denzil Washington anad "A Maiden's Grave" starring James Garner.

After a 13-month closure whilst a £1.4 million refurbishment was carried out, the local library has re-opened today by all accounts. Must drop in some night to try out the new self service book issuing machine.Although I read there are far fewer books on offer. It's now more a recreational centre than a library. Computers/CD's/DVD's and all manner of activities. Changing times. Self service book issuing machine.

Let us know what you think of it. I would love an E-reader, but the whole point of me starting to use the library is to read for free. Some classics are available for free, but they are not the sort of books I want to read. www.free-ebooks.net/

Just finished Stephen King's newest, "Under The Dome", and I quite enjoyed it. As usual , it has a very imaginitive story-line, but I thought his normal rambling style was a bit over the top here, and a couple of hundred pages too long. Not his best, but not bad if you're a fan.

Desperation was a great book.
I received quite a few books for Christmas. The one I am reading now is Jeremy Kyle 'I'm only being honest.' I agree with all his views so far.

Post by Lynnrose on Feb 3, 2010 10:12:44 GMT
My last two Christmas books...
- Simon's Cat ~ Simon Tofield
- The Complete Book of Dreams ~ Pamela Ball
Simon's Cat is a lovely book. No reading to do, just full of his drawings, but the cartoons in the book are funny
Dreams...more of a reference book for when you can remember a dream to see what it means.
I have nothing to read now, but I shall get off to the library when I am in the mood.

I love reading, it gives me such a good feeling, when I was about 12 or 13 I helped in a library with my twin sister, we loved it, I love books and have a lot in boxes up in my loft mostly fiction, when I buy a new book I usually move it around the house so that I can look at it... lol yeah I'm daft, I am reading two books just now
The Midwife Trilogy by Jennifer Worth and Dangerous by Nora Robertshappy reading

Having inherited a few bits of light reading from a well meaning lady friend, I actually got round to reading one the other week - Star of the North by Anna Jacobs. It's a pleasant enough little tale with no real surprises, but there was enough to keep me reading which is what every author wants after all. Not the sort of book I would normally read and I probably won't be seeking other books by her, unless I need a bit of train journey light relief.
Book two was a different kettle of fish altogether. A based on true events type thing about a sister retelling retrospectively the story of her older sister suffering from a mental illness. I found it very heavy going and felt no empathy at all with the younger sister left behind. It just read as a guilt trip to me and appears to be her cashing in on her sisters misfortune. Not impressed and I gave up after about a hundred pages.
Book three - Rose Alley by Audrey Howard
Historical romance, much like the first one. It started well enough and I thought I might enjoy it, but then in a bid for authenticity no doubt, it rambles off into Yorkshire dialect for a whole mini monologue - and I immediately switched off and put the book down.
I can cope with James Herriot, but not that
