Let's list what books we are reading, title and author, genre, a review and maybe a link to some more reviews to give us readers an idea of what book to read next.
I joined a library this morning as I have decided to stop wasting money on buying books. I have some of my old books listed on Green Metropolis, but I haven't sold a book for a couple of years!...so I am not going to buy anymore.
I am reading Hurting Distance by Sophie Hannah. It's a thriller. I am only on page 34, but good so far. I have read another one of hers called 'Little Face' and enjoyed that one. [atrb=background,http://i39.tinypic.com/2s6sriv.jpg,true][cs=3] Book/Author List by CIT members ~ Details in posts below Updated 2nd March 2009 |

My local library is closed for a year for a £1.42 million lottery grant refurbishment. When it reopens there will be no books on display. You browse on computers, then select your book on the screen, scan your membership card and the books will be delivered to the desk by some type of mechanical conveyor system.

Im reading "The long cloud ride" by Josie Dew about her cycle ride from Auckland across New Zealand, ;D something I'd love to do one day, if I have the time and money, and someone to fix my bike!

Just browsed the Green Metropolis site. It's a great idea although £3-75 for a secondhand paperback is a bit steep I think. Good place to search for say, Fly Fishing by J R Hartley.
They do have a good selection of books by my fav author, Elmore Leonard.

I very rarely read anymore and my TV is switched off for days (somtimes weeks) at a time - which makes me think I might spend a bit too much time on my PC(s) !
The last book I (re) read was Lord of the rings, just before the first film came out so I could see how true to the book it was - surprisingly close as it happens.
When I used to read regularly, it was usually horror books from James Herbert or Stephen King, or offbeat humour from Peter Tinniswood, David Nobbs and Terry Pratchet. I quite liked Tom Sharpe too, but his over wordy style is a bit annoying when you either have to guess what he means or go looking words up in a dictionary.
My bookshelf is top heavy with reference books rather than novels, and probably the only author to be fully represented is James Herbert, so I guess he's my favourite author. Although I think 'It' by Stephen King is one of the best books I've ever read

A Teletext survey of 4,000 Britons found that almost half of the books they bought remained unfinished. The only one on the list I tackled was Ulysses.
Top10 unfinished fiction 1 Vernon God Little, DBC Pierre 2 Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, JK Rowling 3 Ulysses, James Joyce 4 Captain Corelli's Mandolin, Louis De Bernieres 5 Cloud Atlas, David Mitchell 6 The Satanic Verses, Salman Rushdie 7 The Alchemist, Paulo Coelho 8 War and Peace, Leo Tolstoy 9 The God of Small Things, Arundhati Roy 10 Crime and Punishment, Fyodor Dostoevsky

Some pretty heavy reading there - apart from Harry Potter obviously. I wonder why that is in the list at all actually.
The film came out, so they didn't bother finishing the book?
Unwanted present from parents?
Parents bought it for themselves to see what all the fuss was about?
.... and good girl Lynnrose, I bet you eat all your greens as a kid too :-p
I must admit I rarely discard a book as well, because if I'm interested enough to buy/borrow/lend it, then I might as well read it. The only one I remember putting on the back burner indefinitely was 'The Silmarillion' by Tolkien - it bored me to tears

I've been reading Science Fiction for about 60 years now, got hooked by the exciting covers on the old pulp magazines in the second hand bookshop where I used to swop my comics. ;D
Had many favourite authors over the years, at the moment it's Iain M. Banks. I'm currently re-reading his "Culture" stories, set in a far future Universe, and well worth investigating if you're interested in SF.
Beats the pants off Star Wars,Star Trek and all that lot. ;D
ps. I also think Pratchet's Discworld series is fantastic.

Congratulations! You scored 9 out of 12 correct answers. That's a pretty good score, but there's still room for improvement. Well done, congratulations on a fantastic effort. You are clearly well read! Now try one of these: Good Job it wasn't on the clock. I had to think about some of these for ages. ;D ps. I guessed about half of them from the hints,
