i was going to try out linux xp then i stumbled across linux freespire, the reason that i was going to try these out is that i can use exe files, as i get easily confused when trying to instal progs on linux, i nearly bought my copy of freespire of ebay for £0.99 + postage but me being the cheapskate that i am thought ide google freespire before parting with any cash an found out i could have it for free grrr lol, does anyone have an opinion on freespire before i try an install it as i dont have much hair left to pull out if i get frustrated with it lol,
cheers

I don't know where you get the impression that you can use exe files in freespire - it's just a Debian clone like Ubuntu and a host of others - ie it's just a normal Linux
You can use 'wine' and the commercial 'crossover' to get a certain (very limited) number of Windows programs to run inside Linux, but it's via an emulator that uses Win 98 as a base, so it's usefulness is somewhat limited - and it can be slow too.
Most programs either have a native Linux version like Firefox, Thunderbird and OpenOffice, or have a similar program that does the same job like 'The Gimp' as a photoshop type package or the strangely named 'K3B' as an alternative to Nero.
Freespire (a community edition of the commercial 'Linspire') hasn't had a stable update since late 2007 so I question it's usefulness anyway, but rumours say they are merging with Xandros, which should be good - if it happens
Stick to the more modern versions is my advice, unless you're trying it on an older machine
