A couple of my hotmail accounts are now showing the adverts to the side of the message pane, thus reducing the width of the pane considerably. Is there a setting I can adjust, please.

There is but it costs £59.99 per year. I dont think you can do much to a free account.

Hotmail is one of those annoying things that we need to put up with.
Like most people I've had 2 Hotmail accounts for years. Everyone knows my address's. Changing now would present a lot of problems.
Microsoft really wants to cash in on this but seems to be having issues.
To my mind the most annoying aspect of Hotmail is the lousy spam filter.
Anyone want a few hundred addresses for Viaagra from a Canidian Pharmasy?

Why suffer adverts at all - use Firefox with adblockplus, even if it's only for hotmail.
It is useful for this site too though, and as much as I appreciate all the work Lynnrose and others have done to make it better, I'm glad I've got adblockplus to stop the juke box, chat box and other minor sound annoyances from kicking in

Angel have you tried Windows Live Mail, I use this and don't get any rubbish. You can put all your Email accounts into Live Mail and get them all at the same time. I have 3 different Email Addys and view them all via Live Mail

Well it's called adblockplus, and it's a Firefox 'addon' that's easily installed by going to Tools/Add-ons and then pick the 'Get Add-ons' tab. You can use the search box which is easiest or just browse all add ons. Once you've installed and restarted Firefox, you are asked to subscribe to a filter list. Easy list USA is the obvious one to pick for most people here, so choose that and every major or even minor annoyance is instantly killed. If some remain you can right click the picture and choose to block that too - subscribing is free and doesn't require any registration nonsense either, just put a dot in 'easy list' and press apply or whatever it says Here's a few examples of FF with Adblockplus against the same page in IE7 (Firefox is the top one in each set) I actually don't mind these targetted non flashy ads - in fact I prefer them I think Definitely don't want those sort though Most of those are fairly mild offenders, and it seems like almost a different web site on others - but in a good way

Here's another example- IE is the top one this time The bigger advert is automatically blocked because it's in the filter list If you look at the smaller advert, I have moved my mouse to the top right hand corner and I'm given the choice to block the Fifa advert too

..... which results in this. it looks a bit sparse now, but you can read a lot more of the page and no flashy things distracting you !

I use 'Windows Live Mail' and also 'Mailwasher Pro' (not free) and any nefarious stuff is zapped forthwith.
