Managed to get one of these (sealed, brand new) on John Pye's Auction site for £55 - before fees, VAT, Shipping etc, but still under £100 with all that added on.
Having previously owned the 10" version, it's not noticeably bigger but I was more interested in the better processor, more RAM and higher resolution this version offered.
It was also the 128 GB (storage) version which is about £50 more than the standard 64 GB model at retail prices.
This is a dangerous game Amazon are playing with the full retail price of £299 putting it very close to Apples cheapest and Samsung's mid price offerings.
I'm happy at my bargain price obviously, but there's no way I would even consider it at full price and it needs to be at least £100 cheaper if it's ever going to take off.
Running Amazons own version of Android called 'FireOS' it is restricted to Amazons app store which is a lot smaller than Google's play store but does have many of the popular apps.
So what's it like? Well not being a regular tablet user, I didn't notice any show stopping faults and it's certainly fast enough for general browsing.
The camera is surprisingly good but I don't think many people are using tablets for taking pictures when their phones usually have better cameras on them.
If you can get it at Black Friday or similar sale prices, it's a capable enough tablet that does it's job, and Apple and Samsung won't be worrying about losing customers to this latest offering from Amazon.
Not really having a use for a tablet, I'll probably be selling this on for a modest profit in the near future.

I have an Amazon Fire 8, bought several yrs. ago (Either on Amazon or Best Buy, I can't recall any longer, LOL), for not much in USDs (Here on the Left Coast) and was immediately disappointed that it did not have Google Play Store, no Chrome Browser, etc. etc. I Googled for a Work Around, and found one that got the Google Play Store on it, and immediately download/Installed Chrome onto it. I still have it, but it is not used for much. It is presently sitting atop my CD Player in my Audio system, because I discovered that it makes a great additional audio component, bringing up Music sites like IHeart radio, and playing it right through my Audio system, larger floor speakers, etc. Actually found it, Best Buy back in 2017 :-) P.S. Been so long since I have been here, I nearly forgot all about this grp. LOL. I hope everyone is well:-)
