Treated myself to a new phone - Google Pixel 8 Pro, thanks to a very tempting Black Friday offer.
I don't usually go for top of the range or brand new because of the hideous costs - a friend of mine is paying £70 a month for the latest Samsung fold thing for instance.
No way I could justify that kind of cost, or would even want to for Samsung phones which are bloated to the max with Samsung specific junk.
The offer I got for the Google pixel was £30 a month which still seems pretty expensive, but outside of Black Friday that would be at least £50 and I'm already paying best part of a tenner for a sim only contract for my older Google Pixel I bought outright. With that cancelled that makes just over £20 a month extra I'm having to pay, which I think is a decent deal for a brand new top of the range phone.
I won't use half of the fancy new features, but with double the RAM, double the storage, a much better processor and camera(s) It's a bargain, sort of!
And it's a pretty colour, which is obviously the main reason for the upgrade ;o)

A month on (almost) and no regrets so far, although for normal day to day stuff, there isn't a great deal of difference from the four year old Pixel 4XL to be honest.
The camera is definitely better with auto macro and a host of other features. Superior cameras was always the Pixels strong point anyway.
One of the main things that finally swayed me into getting one was the promised 7 years of updates, although this is a moot point when even 5 year old technology will be starting to look jaded and the likelihood of anyone still using one in 7 years will be very slim. Crafty move by Google really when the battery will definitely be dead or very poorly by then too.
When most other manufacturers only offer 2 or 3 years tops, I'm just happy it will still get updates long after I've finished paying for it!
