Hi Everyone, Hope you are all ok. As you know my wife passed away on 26th September last year (Cancer). I have finally plucked up the courage to look through her phone. I would like to download the SMS texts she sent on her phone to my PC for safe keeping and to keep them as a memory of our text conversations. The issue is I have looked around and I despite the programmes on the web they all want a considerable payment for a programme. Oh and the google option does not work. My wife was not into her mobile phone and all she did was text or call. Can anyone help me transfer the SMS from her Sony Xperia XQ-AD51. many thanks Soupey xxx

I am so sorry to read about your loss, I can not imagine losing mine, before me passing. Both my Wife & I over the years (Her in her 30s, now 70) me at 68 (Prostate), have had cancer and so far survived. But back to your question, since you can get into her phone, can't you just FWD them to say a folder you could create in one of your email addies?? Might be a bit of a chore, depending on how many, but worth the trouble:-).
Now you are braver than me. All my devices are password protected and I would not want my LOVE to be able to snoop, even after I'm gone, not wanting her to see all the SEMI Nude PICs I have of her (Upwards of 50), some she posed for as far back as 1988, after I gave her some Teddies for Christmas from, Victoria Secret, LOL,and a few she doesn't know about (Full on NUDES, front & rear :-), I'm a SLY DAWG, LOL, and her knowing that some she does know about have been shared :-)
I just can't help sharing to close friends, because they are so hot:-).
Anyway, I hope you find your solution, maybe the FWD thing. It is so great of you wanting to save those as a memorial of her. You must have loved her more than life itrself, as I do mine.

P.S. See my Profile PIC, well we met because of me playing drums, back in 1971, her in either the tightest HOT PANTS, or MicroMini skirts, and I still can't believe how lucky I am, her legs on a scale of 1-10 being a Tina Turner 20, and still are, LOL

Not sure what the problem is here, have you lost your phone that she sent the messages to, or reset your phone to factory settings and lost everything that way?
Ignoring that, your first option should be downloading an app on her phone that does SMS backups - there are lots, some obviously better than others.
Failing that, Linux is your best bet for avoiding commercial programs, but having researched it briefly, you'll also need a second program to decipher the raw data into human readable form.
