www.tecmint.com/big-companies-and-devices-running-on-gnulinux/Dated 2015 and some information may not still be true, but I don't think most people realise the impact of Unix/Linux in IT and the world in general. Even with millions quite happy to use an Android smartphone, which is basically a cut down version of Linux. It makes a perfectly acceptable home desktop that is immune to Windows nasties and updates at lightning speed, mostly without the need to reboot. It's also guaranteed to improve your sex life, make winning the lottery easier and..... Ok I lied about the last two, but even if it was true I still think most people wouldn't switch, such is the level of Windows brainwashing out there and the stubborn refusal to try something different.

Back when I had my first desktop, a WindowXP PC, when they stopped supporting it, I converted it to Linux, trying a couple or three distros booting up from discs, finally settling on Mint 17, which to me looked most like what I was used to. I really liked the way it worked.
Finally replacing that PC with my MacMini.
But of all the devices I have, a few, LOL, my FAV has always been this Chromebook that I am presently typing on, very fast (Especially its' updates even Major ones, unlike MACs), invulnerable to near anything, and best of all FOR ME, STUPID PROOF, LOL LOL :-)

Another more recent stat I saw proclaimed 97% of the top 1 million (!) servers use Linux.
That's a BIG number and while Linux is free for home use, Server software and the support that goes with it is not free and lots of companies/people are making a lot of money out of Linux.
But that *is* the geekier side of Linux with either limited or no graphic interface to play with and beyond my knowledge.
I do consider myself pretty much an expert in desktop Linux, but at 65 I'm not about to scramble my brain with learning about server Linux.
