For those brave enough to try and rescue old hardware from the resource hungry Windows 10, the lighter versions of Linux are a perfect fit - don't make the mistake of installing a heavyweight version of Linux like Ubuntu because you will barely benefit by doing so. You need the lighter versions like Manjaro or MX Linux which run much faster. Chromebooks have become quite popular, which suprises me because they're basically Linux (Android is Linux) but somehow acceptable because they're associated with Google. They run 'ChromeOS' and now you can run an open source variant of that called 'cloudready' cloudreadykb.neverware.com/s/In theory this could be the ultimate lightweight Linux because it's a browser and very little else once loaded. You need to sign into a Google account to activate it and while Google actively endorse and support it, they are yet to grant playstore and app installation permissions. Hopefully this will change in the future, otherwise it's left as a one trick pony with only very limited appeal. It uses Chromium the open source version of Google Chrome, but includes adblock plus as standard. Even in it's current limited guise, it would be useful as a general surfing machine.
