downloads.sourceforge.net/emmabuntus/emmabuntus-de3-amd64-10.8-1.04.iso
You'll need a spare USB stick 8 GB or larger (it will be erased so don't use one with stuff on you don't want to lose)
If you don't have one for some strange reason, go and buy one now! Argos, Wilko and Currys all sell 16 GB ones for £7 (decent makes) or you could go to the usual suspects Amazon and Ebay for even cheaper ones
Personally I'd avoid that because a lot are generic unbranded junk not worth having. If you can find the same brands Argos etc are selling, then that's ok though.
github.com/pbatard/rufus/releases/download/v3.13/rufus-3.13.exe
You'll need this software to transfer it to your USB stick (after downloading the image (ISO) at the top)
It's all pretty painless and self explanatory, the only possible stumbling block is getting the USB stick to boot (instead of Windows)
Quick recap....
1. Download the first file (at the top), it's 3.6 GB's so could take a while on a slow connection, but a minute or so for most
2. Download the transfer program (Rufus) and install it
3. Run Rufus, choose the first file you downloaded and press start
You should now be the proud owner of a complete (live, doesn't touch Windows) operating system.
The fun part comes with telling the PC to load it. It's usually a simple key press to get the boot menu up (invariably one of the F keys)
On HP computers its normally F9 but could be F12 on other PC's A quick bit of research on Google should point you in the right direction
There's a fairly comprehensive list here ..... www.wikigain.com/boot-menu-option-keys-for-all-laptops-desktops/
This particular Linux was designed for older hardware to send to the poorer nations of the World - primarily as an education tool
Lots of well laid out software and boots quickly on most PC's. Ideal for younger kids who you don't necessarily want to be using (and abusing) your Windows
