I have been using Puppy Slacko for a long time, running off a 4GB USB stick. Recently I started getting messages that my browser (Chrome) was no longer supported. I could not update Chrome except though Slacko updater and that was telling my that I already had the latest. Finally, some of the features I use regularly in Yahoo stopped working, so I decided to use Fossapup64, which an Ubuntu puppy. The Chrome I downloaded was a supported version and all the Yahoo applications now work. I had to "install" my WiFi printer manually, but the scanner part does not work. Fortunately Fossapup recognises my old Canon Lide20, so all the facilities I need are working. Very good impressions so far. Alex

A new version of Slacko (7) was released in January this year in both 32 and 64 bit versions distrowatch.com/?newsid=11125Puppy, in all it's flavours is very impressive if you're restricted to very old hardware and has saved many old latops/PC's going to landfill. I use it occasionally as a rescue CD, but I prefer my main OS to run from a hard drive (preferably SSD) for maximum speed. You can pick up a small (120 GB) SSD for around £15 nowadays, and that is my preferred route when trying to squeeze a bit more life out of old hardware.
