Well Thunderbird - the email program
I stopped using this years ago because it's mainly for POP3 email addresses (client/server protocol for a designated ISP's email) - basically old school email
Nowadays most email is IMAP based i.e accessible through a browser (or on your phone) like Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo etc.
I use my browser (or used to) with Gmail as my main email, it's easy to check that through Chrome, but means going to other sites to check Hotmail or Yahoo etc, which I don't always remember to do.
With Thunderbird you can have all your IMAP (and POP3 if you still have any) accounts in one place.
Makes it easy to check for new emails and keep spam and unwanted stuff under control. Previously I only visited other email accounts to check for monthly bills etc, now I can check daily and not be confronted by a mass of emails that build up over time.
It has better junk controls than web based email checkers and helps me clear up the clutter of bookmarks in Chrome.
If you're juggling 3 or more email addresses, it's a great time saver
