Hello I have a 2009 Samsung NC10 notebook OS is XP I want to change the OS to Linux. Any Ideas? I have downloaded mint onto A USB stick and gone into Bios and tried to boot from every option in boot mode. I can not find the fast boot mode to turn it off? I press F2 and it will open the Bios. F10 F12 don't work F8 is system restore. Also what I have downloaed it says no OS found? Its 32 Bit and I have downloaded three V of Linux but none work? Sorry I wasn't around to help on this, what did you finish up with?
The problem with most peoples perception of Linux, is that it isn't necesarily quicker than Windows unless you pick the right one. There is also misguided loyalty to certain 'distros' akin to football fans and their favourite team. I find it quite amusing because it isn't based on logic and recommendations will come from fans of a certain 'distro' regardless of it's suitability.
Ubuntu fans are probably the worst offenders for this, it's quite resource hungry and definitely not suitable for the hardware you mentioned.
You could dismiss 90% of Linux distros, probably more because a lot are 64 bit only nowadays and the default 1 GB RAM that particular computer came with is nowhere near enough for the majority of mainstream Linux distros.
You'd have to be looking at the specialised for old hardware ones like Puppy Linux or my go to one for ancient hardware that struugles with anything else - Antix Linux
