Hi Guys, My Linux Mate got corrupted during an update. All I get is Localhost Login and then a message that the monitor was not found. I have downloaded a new copy of Ubuntu-Mate-18.04.2, but cannot burn it to DVD, because my DVD drive reads/writes only to CDs and they have no room for the whole OS. Is there a way to create a bootable USB for install from? Many thanks, Alex

Copy the download to a clean USB drive. Go into the BIOS of the computer to be reinstalled and put the USB drive into number one position in Boot Options, so the computer will boot off it. Then treat it as a DVD and install in the normal way. The trick is in the BIOS, not in the drive. The computer will boot from whatever drive you tell it to, as long as the USB drive is plugged in before you boot. Once installed, put the Hard drive back into No. 1 position in the BIOS, or it will be looking for the USB on every boot.

Thank you Vikingken, but that works only when the USB is bootable and mine is not. I get a message "OS not found! Press any key to restart." Thanks again, Alex

Problem solved. I remembered that Mikkh recommended an application called Rufus and I tried it and it worked.
