One of the reasons I prefer Linux over Windows, is it's all done in one easy step - you install it and (almost) everything you could ever need is already there waiting to be used
This obviously has it downside too, because in attempting to give everyone everything, there's a lot of stuff you would never use, but on the whole it's a better system. (and it installs just as quickly as a very bare Windows install)
Compared to the Windows way, which gives you virtually nothing and a fresh install of Windows is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to making it usable - say goodbye to the next hour or two as you hunt for your preferred programs and wrestle with constant reboots and the added annoyance of Windows updates slowing the whole process down. There's also the joy of installing drivers that Windows hasn't found automatically, but that's a whole different story.
What most people really want is their preferred programs on ASAP and you'll need essential system files that don't get installed by default (why Microsoft? they're your files mostly) I'm talking about .NET and visual C runtime files which are needed by a lot of programs. Eventually you'll get a full set of C runtime files as you install third party programs because they will provide them as part of the install
Get to the point! OK I'm getting there. There is a program called 'ninite' which presents you with a list of programs/utilities/system drivers and you just pick the ones you need
No pressing next, next, next and rebooting, no need to worry about extra optional programs being installed, they're all rejected for you and it just gets on with the job silently

There is a slight danger you'll get carried away and install stuff you don't really need, but it's an excellent time saver and allows you to carry on doing something else while you wait for it to finish
