I have just bought a slow cooker from Tescos (only £9.97) and have been looking at recipes online, there are loads, but I thought we could put some tried and tested ones from our members on here. This weekend I am going to try this one..
"Beef brisket is a great joint to slow cook, add beef stock and garlic cloves and slow cook for 8 hours."

To be honest they all amount to a few simple stage. Fry off meat (or not if time is short) Add veg Add tomato puree/garlic (puree if preferred)/ paprika/ chilli to your taste Add stock ( often use the veg stock from previous days) which can be from cubes etc. Add pulses (lentils, pearl barley etc) if liked. Bring to high heat, turn down and simmer. I like to add bitter beer as part of the stock, but any beer does well, even the cheapest. Corned beef makes a good emergency meat and will often make a stew do a second day, if there is not enough meat left. I have ours on for 24 hours before first serving and a second day, because I make a pot full for two of us. We had one day with potatoes and a second served with dumplings this week. My hubby loves my dumplings.

I know slow cookers dont cost much...but has no-one ever used the slow cook setting on their ovens ? I Remember my mum cooking casseroles so they were ready when she came home from work..easy peasy..

True, but slow cookers take even less power. The only thing I cna think of that is cheaper to run like that is to cook over an already burning open fire, or on one of those old black ranges that serves more than one purpose.

Ooh take me back to open fires..when we could burn all our rubbish and not leave it to decay in the ground and harbour germs and disease...
