Mozilla puts Thunderbird for sale

Hi Guys,

I have just read that Mozilla intends to "abandon" Thunderbird and put it up for sale, due to the rising popularity of webmail. I have been using Thunderbird for well over 10 years and whilst I do not believe that any organization would buy it and then not run it, I'd be interested to hear recommendation for a worthy replacement. Although I use Hotmail and Gmail, neither is as good as Thunderbird, so I am looking for an email client that is at least similar.

It was announced they would stop developing Thunderbird nearly 4 years ago, so I don't think there's any real panic to find an alternative just yet.

Having looked at the alternatives and dismissed a lot as thinly disguised adverts, this list from Zdnet looks like one with no hidden agenda

Might be worth a look to see if any look suitable, but the chances are it will still be working fine in another 4 years

Thank you for that, Mikkh. It seems that email clients are rapidly falling out of fashion as there are so few left and none as good as Thunderbird. I have installed Opera and something called Mailbird. I could live with Opera, except that the free version will not work with SMTP servers, so I could only receive emails. Mailbird works OK, but I will have to wait as see what it is like when my 30 day free trial expires and I am "reduced" to a free version. Clearly, there is no need to rush to abandon Thunderbird, but if I had to change I would prefer the humble Sylpheed. I have not tried it in Windows, but it works well in Puppy. Thanks again, Alex.
