I have quite a number of mini DV tapes which I have never transferred to my computer. I used to use Pinnacle software, where I imported the video from my video camera via a firewire connection. I have not loaded the pinnacle software on to my current computer; running Windows 7. I would like to download a standalone version of Windows Movie Maker but when I go on line, the download comprises of Windows Essentials. As I have no desire to download Essentials is there anyway of just downloading Movie Maker on its own. All I want to do is just have the mini DV tapes in digital form so I don't require the sophistication of the Pinnacle software. I still have a firewire connection on my current computer.

I use Windows Movie Maker, but its not as good as Movie Maker 2 that was part of XP. I only install that and not all the other crap that MS try to inflict upon us. WMM works OK, but its not quite as easy as the old version and it seems to lack some of the functions. The missing functions might be there somewhere and it could be me too thick to find them.

A decent Video editor without the endless nonsense is definitely on my wish list. Good ones pop up every so often but only seem to work for a few months then crash. One of the best I had, back in the days of W98 was somehting I found on an Australian site. It chopped and joined with a few other very basic functions. I sadly lost that when my W98 machine fried and was never able to find it again. FormatFactory was pretty good with changing formats, but little else. Found these: www.majorgeeks.com/mg/sortname/video_editors.htmlSome of them I recognise and didn't personally like last time I tried them, but that was a few years ago now. On the bright side, if they are hosted by Major Geeks then they should be free of nonsense at least. Though while Major Geeks won't host software which automatically installs bundled junk, it does if the extras are offered and the opportunity is there to refuse. So, careful while installing to decline or refuse extras.
