This is a function that was so useful on XP. It was also on W7, but in an awkward place. Found this: Basically, right click the desktop, select new Shortcut. Paste this : %windir%\explorer.exe shell:::{3080F90D-D7AD-11D9-BD98-0000947B0257} Click next. Right click the icon and select icon and choose something appropriate. Now, right click and pin to taskbar.

Cheers, it wasn't the bane of my life, but it is nice to have it in the usual position that Windows used to use and Linux still does You have to right click the taskbar and untick 'lock the taskbar' to move it further left if you don't like it plonked at the end of your other icons - which I didn't. lock it afterwards It's still in the same place as Windows 7 btw, but it is extreme bottom right and not visible on some monitors

After a series of events, notified by that helpful 'ding' I can't find the event viewer.
I know it's in there, but all I can get are details of apps such as maps and cortina.
AGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Typing 'event viewer' in the search box doesn't work?

It does now that I've turned off that Cortina thing. Before all I got were offerings of sports events. Ach, just having a rant. But I really appreciate the response mikkh. Have you gotten around to winding back your W10 install yet? My brother in law in Africa asked me for a copy of W10 because he want to do a clean install. Found a really neat tool on M$ which made loading it onto USB or DVD a breeze. It's the Media Creation Tool: www.microsoft.com/en-gb/software-download/windows10
