My CPU, i7 6700K 4.0GHz is cooled by a NZXT Kraken 120mm Variable Speed Liquid Cooler.
I monitor the temp using Core Temp. I also occasionally double check with HW Monitor which lists fan speed.
While for the most part the 4 temps are around the mid 20C, they do seem to peak at up to 60C every so often.
These results were happening before I removed the control program and after has made no difference at all
The Cooler is supposed to work through a program which needs an internet connection to its base. Frankly, that was a bit of a bust, taking so long to connect each time and repeatedly flagging up a warning that the CPU fan had stopped working! Anyway, I removed that program and plugged the fan directly into the CPU fan connection. Leaving the pump power in the pump power connection of course.
All seems to be fine. The fan chooses to speed up when there is a load, which is OK. My PC runs as smooth as you could wish for.
The max recommended temp for my CPU is 100C.
I'm really just looking for some reassurance. Is it OK for a CPU temp to be spiking like that?
(I bought the liquid cooler because I thought it would look cool. Also, the head which sits on the CPU is considerably lighter than metal heatsync which sits attacked to on a vertical MB. )

50 - 60 degrees under heavy load is par for the course with most liquid coolers. The thing that separates the men from the boys, is how long it takes to return to base levels afterwards
10 seconds (or less if you're lucky) means it's better than most.
I wouldn't want mine anywhere near 100 - 70 at most
I'm also not a fan (no pun intended) of variable speed control, I set mine at a constant rate - the loudest I can tolerate usually. I find an increase in noise more distracting than a constant hum which you learn to blank out

Thank mikkh. I had a feeling it was fine, but given what I spend of the blighter, I kinda wanted to ask someone else. As for the variable speed controls, those are in the BIOS on my machine. So far I think I'll have slightly more luck reading the Koran translated into Chinese than understanding what my BIOS is on about. The board is fairly new of course, but so far, searches tend to flag up reviews and adverts, nothing about the BIOS. I did find something on Youtube, but it was a quick run through saying how impressed they were that this and that was there. I've found a ton of information on the Overclockers site but so far, nothing very much about setting the BIOS. I'm sure things will work out soon enough and I will bear in mind your suggestion about setting the pump speed. It makes sense. Thanks again for the reassurance of Temps. Addition. Just realised I haven't said the name of the board. I had planned to write an essay on building this PC but I'm getting a bit bogged down. Anyway, Asus Maximus VIII Another. Just found these screenshots: www.guru3d.com/articles-pages/asus-z170-rog-maximus-viii-hero-review,8.html
