I dived in and did the job.
The file I downloaded from my MB site.
The tool was in the BIOS itself, on the Tools page.
It ran then restarted. But nothing. Dead. I turned off after a while, then back on, still dead. Finally, out of shear desperation, I disconnected the battery, leaving it out for 30 mins, then replaced.
I have updated from a 2007 version to a 2009. I shall see if that is enough to allow for W10 to install.
Initially, it returned an error, checksum. I couldn't see what to do about it so I proceeded and it has fired up Windows.

It isn't enough to install W10.
Thanks Lynnrose for the likes. They are much appreciated.
I'm not going to spend any more time on W10. Unless some new information comes along or there is a change in M$ approach.
