Anyone offer an explanation why, though I have 4 x 1Gb RAN cards installed, my system only recognises 3.25Gb and uses only 2.49Gb? Is it because my PC is old? Is my PC the victim of Ageism here? Be grateful for suggestions that don't involve a new PC. (And interested in any at all)

Because a 32 bit system can only read 3.25 or perhaps 3.5 GB RAM Jojo. A 64 bit system can read up to 120 GB RAM, but I dont know a board with enough slots.

And the available figure in PCFerret means Windows is using the other 'missing' 3/4 of a GB, which is less than most people I guess you've been tweaking the services to get it that low
