Hi the Wife owns a citreon C3 Plureil convertable. it has a gearbox fault. I resaerched this fault through the IET and through a citreon c3 users website. I found the issue and took the car to citreon. The cost should be around £80. They came out with it needed two new acuators totaling a £1000 I told them that I was a Technical Member of the Insitute of Engineering and Technology and I had reaserched the issue ans it simply needed a sofware upgrade. They backed down when I said I would be producing a paper for the IET with my thoughts on the issue. They have agreed that it does not need the parts and just a software update. They alsooffered advice on how to fix the boot lid instead of trying to charge me £4000 for a new one!!! So just be aware when you take your car into the dealers Oh the cost £78 and they even recharged the batterry for free!

Do the paper anyway, how many more have not been so lucky to have your knowledge This was from a main dealer? Name and shame, car dealers seem to get away with that nonsense more than any other trade. Especially in the last decade or so when cars have become increasingly complex and almost impossible to diagnose without the right equipment
... and well done for sticking to your guns

The best decision I made when I retired was selling my car.
The whole industry has become a major rip off.
