I found a free dialup service at www.free-isp.co.uk and tested it on my old IBM Pentium I (C1989). It worked. It is painfully slow by modern standards, but I will keep it for emergencies when my router packs up and I need to email my ISP for another. The number is 0845 123 2020 and full details are on their website. Just wondering, although I will not use this except in emergency, is this some kind of a scam where I am charged exorbitant rate? Many thanks, Alex

Thank you mojo, but that is not the ISP that I tried and mine worked yesterday. But it does not give you an email address, so it is strictly access to Internet only, but you can use intenet based emails like Hotmail etc. Yes the cost is high, but I would use it only in dire emergency. Thanks again, Alex

It's not a problem. As a backup it sounds like an excellent idea to keep on hand.
