H!,
I am going to get a new hardrive soon and was wondering which to get a IDE one or a SATA one, which is the best and what problems will i get?
I have IDE Type 1 x IDE, 4 x SATA
Thanks.

SATA II is the way to go Elvis, everything is going SATA now. You could always put a SATA in a later computer. Modern motherboards have only got one ATA connector, yet they still have an old floppy connector. Thats probably for installing RAID drivers on a new setup and not all rigs will find a USB drive without drivers. The only thing you have to watch, make sure you have smooth curves in the cables and no kinks. A kinky cable will have you thinking you have got a boot virus.

SATA II is faster - and cheaper, at my local suppliers anyway, so it's a 'no brainer' as our American friends say.
A quick look reveals an IDE 250 GB going for £47 (Western Digital 2 MB cache) while the same company is doing a SATA II drive with 8 MB cache for £9 less - and it's a bigger drive at 320 GB !!
The IDE price is shocking, and deliberately hiked because they know people with older systems and no SATA capability have no choice. The same goes for older DDR RAM and AGP cards - you're penalised for using older technology

Seen the price of SCSI drives Mikk?? I can only presume that there are people who are struggling to keep SCSI RAID systems going. Who else would pay over a ton for a 30 gig drive.
