i fixed my friends page file usage problem(see virtual memory thread) by loading his music and docs on to a maxtor external hd and reloading to factory settings. and then transferring his files back to his comp. now WMP wont play individiual songs because it says playlist already exists. can i reinstall media player without losing music or should i just download another media player?
i swear his computer is haunted

I'd download another player - there are lots of alternatives, with probably the most useful one being the 'classic' one supplied in the k-lite mega codec pack. You then get the ability to play any video/music file type in existence
You can find K-lite in the multimedia section of www.majorgeeks.com
Others to consider are 'Winamp' and 'VLC'
'itunes' is one to avoid IMO
