1. I have 2 problems currently, several Hotmail accounts which work well, but one keeps asking me to enter my password and I am confused, it will not respond? any ideas please. I use Windows Live Messenger and this problem prevents other mail from loading too. 2. Excel problem. This file looks like a 'permissions' fault but I don't know how to resolve it, need help please.

The Hotmail problem sounds like it may have been hijacked. Hotmail accounts with interesting names that don't include numbers are saleable.
Suggest you contact Hotmail immediately.
Don't know anything about excel, but if I may respectfully suggest you post the name of your OS.

Pete, thanks for your reply but I am afraid I don't understand what you are saying unless you mean System Restore?

Yes that's it system restore. Where you can go back a few days or more, if necessary.

The link jojo posted seems the answer, if you ignore the IE bit that is - can't see why that's even included myself. The rest just alludes to the official Microsoft cure support.microsoft.com/kb/211494According to the replies on the other link, it doesn't really help, but it's worth trying I suppose Your file is on the E drive, which is external I'm assuming. So your guess it might be a permissions error could be relevant. You could try moving the file temporarily to the desktop to see if that makes any difference. Another option is to try Openoffice which reads and writes to Microsoft Office filetypes including XLS www.openoffice.org/download/index.html

Well, I cannot get anything to work on the excel file, moving it to the desktop but it was exactly the same. This problem is only this one file all other excel files are fine. However when I get the "problem "sending the command" it produces a blank screen but at the top is an "Open" instruction and this enables me to work on it. Somewhat 'Heath Robinson' but it works. I cannot find any reference to DDE or in a system restore.

The problem was initially created by me trying to do something, that I was trying to achieve. The machine is running fine apart from this one problem, it is a file to keep control of what scores are created on the Jigsaw which frankly is not that important, I think I may delete it. Thanks for your continued advice.

Mikkh,
Am I right in thinking I would need to uninstall MS Office 2003 prior to downloading Open Office if I decide to take that route. In the event I do have the original CD. I have now discovered that other aspects on Office are affected similarly also.

No you can have both, just watch for it trying to take over as the default program - it should ask as part of the install If it does take over (you'll notice the icons are different) there should be somewhere in the M$Office settings to get it back to more familiar icons
Worst case scenario, you can right click the file and use the 'open with' option
But having them both is no problem and OpenOffice is obviously a much newer program with more features than an old copy of M$Office anyway

Mikkh,
At last I have sorted the Excel problem by downloading "Open Office" and hey presto, all is working well. My sincere thanks to you and all other members who tried to help me.
