I have installed Panda Cloud Antivirus in Win7, but I am not sure if it "protects automatically" or do I have do regular scans.

It protects you automatically, but you can always do a scan if you think there's something wrong. If you think your computer has been compromised, your better off scanning with MalwareBytes AntiMalware. Panda protects against viruses, but might not pick up on the malware that MBAM does. Its different horses for different courses. You will get a popup in the bottom right hand corner when Panda blocks something and sometimes it will want to restart.
