I have a Dell computer about four years old with Windows XP; for the last two days, the screen on startup, which should show the Dell Logo etc hasn't happened.
I and get nothing after I press the start button only the screen rolling, I then click the mouse a few times and hit the Return Key a couple of times and the computer starts up and goes ok.
It looks to me like there is a fault with the Dell start, not with my programs. Help please. Westy

Sounds like something has got into the startup and causing problems.
There are several ways to see your startup list. The easiest is to click START RUN and type msconfig in the box. Then click the STARTUP tab
If you could post the list on here someone will advise.

I would think that your PC Power supply may be getting faulty.
I find that the fault you describe when the bios does not show the Dell Logo etc is usually before you get a final failure. Try unplugging any USB peripherals (this will reduce the load on the power supply) and see if it starts OK
A new PSU will be around £20

Do computing's suggestion first.
It makes a lot of sense and will be fairly easy to see if it works.
If not, get back to us.

If it is as computing is suggesting please re search the psu makers as a lot of the cheap psu's are not at all reliable.

I am fortunate to have a grandson who has a spare monitor, and when he connected it up for me, it proved that my monitor had given up the ghost. There is now a new one on order and I am now looking at a 10 year old monitor screen that will do me fine for the next few days. Thank you all for your help and suggestions. Westy
