Go to Gmail Then copy the URL in the address bar Drag the URL to your Firefox task bar.
Bookmarks Show all Bookmarks Find the Gmail one and change name to Gmail (instead of the URL)

Just got a new computer, and has the windows 8.1 on it. Found it to be user unfriendly. I have discovered a right click on the windows icon reveals a better way of getting around to the things you want to get to like control settings and many more. Wish I could get it to be more like the windows 7. Believe there is a way, any comments would be good.

You can download Classic Shell from here Pete. www.classicshell.net/ Then you can set it up the way you like it. I put W 8.1 on my old laptop, just to see how it works. I had to install Classic Shell to make any sense of it. The menus are a bit more XP than W 7; but very easy to work things out, unlike W 8.1.

Thanks Ken, I downloaded and tried it, but I was not really happy with it, so uninstalled and decided to persevere with the original windows 8.1. When I get used to it, I may even be able to help others, that's a laugh. Appreciate the link Ken, thanks.

Not even going to bother looking at it, Windows 7 is 5 years old in a few weeks and is destined to last as long as XP did - XP is 13 years old about the same time, and still in use on many PC's
Windows 8 will go down in computer history as another ME or Vista and quickly forgotten about, and with 9 likely to be nothing more than a slightly revamped 8 - it's not looking good for that either
According to the latest figures I've just read, only 13% use Windows 8, 23% still use the venerable aging XP and 51% use Windows 7 - the rest being Linux and MAC one assumes

I am now getting used to windows 8.1. Start up is very quick, so is shutdown. Nice to have up to date operating system that seems compatible with the latest features. So it should! So far so good.

Seems that there is not much choice Elvis, as if you buy a new computer it is hard to get one with Win 7, so that's how I got it with my new computer.

I am using 8.1 It takes some tweeking to get it personalised it took me a few weeks. I have not found it easy to get into the windows files to swap things around. but mine is working fine now. I would not recommend you purchase 8.1 but if you have got it just sort the settings out and it works pretty much like xp.

If anyone upgraded an old XP computer with a retail copy of Windows 7 and has now bought a new computer with Windows 8 on it. The same copy of Windows 7 can be installed on the new computer, as long as the old computer is scrapped or Windows 7 is uninstalled. A retail copy can be installed on as many computers as you like, as long as its not installed on more than one at any time. If you use the disk to install it on two or more computers, you have to buy licenses for the extra installations from Microsoft. Windows 7 retail disks do not have a fixed key number like the older versions of Windows and can be used to install any computer, as long as you have a legal key number to activate the installation. If you bought a computer with an OEM copy installed, it cant be installed on another computer.

Classic shell looks good for use on W7. Apologies I haven't looked at this thread before by the way.
I'm using W7 more now, simply because some programs won't run on XP. But that was inevitable I suppose.
I find the most infuriating aspect of W7 are the number of, what I can only assume, are users, by default. I save something to. for example Pictures in Documents, only to find it's been saved to another, different Pictures file, elsewhere.
That is just stupid.
If it is some nefarious user account, I can't find it or delete it.
I doubt Classic Shell can do anything about that, but it may make navigating the start menu a little easier.
Thanks ken.
Interesting mikkh. Windows seems to have lot its 95% market share perch. Wonder if they will get the message?
They will probably dismiss it as bad karma!
