They dont have any moving parts, but they dont last forever. I am using them in my laptop and mini netbook, my laptop gets very hot with a mechanical drive and SSDs dont get hot. They are SATA 3 connection for internal setup and can be used externally with both eSATA and USB3 connections. You can connect them to USB2, but then you wouldn't get the high speed they are built for.
