I got a newer, bigger monitor and need to change the resolution. My old setting is 1024 x 768. I need to change it to 1680 x 1050. But everytime I change it and hit "apply" it goes right back to the old setting. What am I doing wrong?? Oh, I'm on Windows XP Home Edition, SP 3.
Thanks! Pam

Maybe your graphics card can't handle it, which is probable if it's 'on-board' graphics The picture shows what I mean by 'on-board' If your graphics card is below the on-board slots, it could be a very old one and may need replacing before the resolution will 'stick' Run a system info tool like Everest Home Edition or PCWizard 2008 to see what your current card is

Quite apart from that, M8, there's no real need to alter the screen resolution simply because you've changed your monitor.

The resolution required seems to suggest the new monitor is a 22" widescreen model, so I'd say there is a need to change it myself. Most of these newer monitors have a 'native resolution' at which they look best, and at which it should auto adjust to - if the graphics card can handle it, that is.
That's all guesswork though, without knowing the new monitors size or the graphics card currently installed

I have a 22" widescreen and it looks way better at 1680 x 1050 than anything less .
Have you installed the drivers from the disc that came with the monitor ? Mine looks best with the XP specific drivers i got from the ViewSonic site . Have you tried to find updates for your graphics drivers .
Good luck .

Best thing to do is to update your graphics drivers. But.. my best opinion is to buy a good decent graphics card as they are better than integrated one's.

I've got a 22 inch wide screen; but if I set it to 1680 x 1050, I would need glasses like Fred Scuttle to see it. At 1280 x 1024 I can just about struggle through.
Even if your graphics card will go that high, it wont without the right drivers. Check their website for the latest drivers.
