Ok bit of a weird one here lol .. i work from home so have my desktop all nice and neat and anything i use for work is over on the right with normal stuff over on the left. My problem being now is that all of a sudden everytime i open my icq all the icons that would have stayed under it shift over the screen. Not only icq but if i open IE or Firefox they act as if that area of the screen doesnt exsist . Am i making sense ? its like my laptop suddenly wants to believe i have a 13inch screen and not a 15inch. if i move all the icons bk the minute i open anything over that side they immediately move back over the screen. Ive tried system restore and tried uninstalling icq all to no avail .. ive done ccleaner ive run avq ive run spybot and now im at my wits end lol help ! thanks in advance for any ideas x

Another thing you could try Kaz, is to right-click on the DT and check 'show DT icons' and 'align to grid'. I do things the opposite way round; all my apps and progg icons are on the right - so that opening the start menu doesn't interfere with them - and any shortcuts that I do need are on the left, and then only when they're needed. Put simply, the less you have on the DT the better off you'll be; for the minimal extra effort of opening My Docs and raising the folder needed manually it's a small price to pay, IMHO.

The icons moving is an annoyance but its like if i have an internet page open and i then open icq it will make the ie smaller so icq fits at the side of it. its really strange as soon as i close icq bk to tool bar the ie page maximises again. grrr getting annoying now lol thanks for suggestions so far
