This appears to be reported as the latest threat. Seems Virus writers have grown bored with spyware and gone back to good old annoying. Apparently the infection rate is very high. Most won't know they have it at first. This one rewrites a number of files, to prevent anti-virus software from running or updating and blocks net access to a number of places to get help, including M$. I found mine by accident when looking at my event viewer. There was an error entry, examining it, it claimed it could run At1.job. I used my wife's computer, which is not infected and downloaded this off line virus tool tool from M$ and burned it to a CD. Handy to keep around anyway. I have written the version number on the disc and will update if it becomes available. I will also add, before running I removed the LAN cable, since it had been advised. Not sure if it was necessary, but since I wasn't going to use the net while the prog ran it wasn't important. www.microsoft.com/security/scanner/en-gb/default.aspxIncidentally, If you still use System Restore, that should be turned off for the time being as well. I have also manually removed all old copies of Java, which seems to be the way the thing got in. www.java.com/en/download/help/uninstall_java.xmlI should add that, the program which installed it, JS/Blacole.yo was in my old VISTA backup files. Not XP, probably because it is a new install. My copy of Vista had a firewall and an uptodate virus program. Just saying.

Thanks for the heads-up, Jojo - I'll keep my peepers open for that one. Anything else going on round your way?

The first reports of At1.job and cornficker virus, was in March 2009. I'm not in the slightest bit worried, well past the sell by date now.

Not much johnnybee. Pottering around, finding things to do that don't involve TV. (Have you noticed how utterly mind numbing TV is? You know it's getting bad when the endless adverts don't bother you any more. That's the time to switch off and use the brain!!)
Viking.
Probably right. The one I had didn't seem to manage to start really, but handy to know. Also a reminder to keep a copy of the off line recovery disc available. I had one from ages ago, which I got for someone, but couldn't find it. Probably out of date anyway.

If I was using an AV Jojo and it let a 5 year old virus get by, I would be looking for a new AV. I might be a little bit more forgiving if the virus had only been around for 5 days.
