H! Copey' If you want to get rid of everything you can do a reformat of your C:\ drive, if you just want to get rid of you dirt piccys or letters or other stuff you do not want you will have to do it manually if you want to get rid of your old programmes the you can do that in add & delete programmes.

If you do a fresh clean reinstallation it will wipe everything off the drive. I doubt if your grandson will have the inclination, or the or the sort of money needed to buy software to bring back the old OS. So as long as he doesn't work for MI5/6, your secrets will be safe.

I say this with great respect Ken, but I've learnt to my cost never to underestimate the abilities of children, especially when it comes to computers. There are shredding programs you can use to shread files you don't want. This is the one I use. It is primarily an encryption program but does shredding as well. It's also surprisingly easy to use. And costs my favourite price. www.baroufasoft.net/zerofootprint1.htm

As a matter of interest you can get programs for free off the net (legal versions, not pirate copies) that will retrieve data from a wiped drive with little or no knowledge or effort. Shred the data first before re formatting is the only way.
I used a program called 'Get back data' once when I reformatted the wrong partition by mistake and managed in about an hour to recover about 90% of all my 'wiped' data.
