I've picked up some kind of virus called "YAC" Malwarebytes don't seem to shift it. When I try to remove it in "Add/Remove Progs" I get a YAC box come up, but with no visual text to remove? Is there any way to shift it ? I've also just noticed that there is another little begger called " iSafe" Any ideas ?

All is OK now, I did a full scan with Malwarebytes in safe mode. I only did a quick scan at first, so it pays to do a full scan!

Safe Mode is always best John. Active files wont delete and Safe Mode only allows the bare OS files that have to run to start. At one time Safe Mode was the only way for MBAM to get into Restore Files; it can scan them now, but still needs Safe Mode for the reason stated. You can be fooled by MBAM removing some instances of a virus, but these viruses rarely only have one instance and the live ones get left behind if Safe Mode isn't used.

Johny you are absolutely correct, I do a FULL Mbam scan at least once a month and the quick scan about twice a week, works a treat.

Click on Start globe on LHS of task bar > type " safe mode" (no quotes) > click on Safe Mode.

The F8 method as discribed in Merchants link is the best method. If your computer is exceptionally fast booting and you cant catch the boot options, Run the msconfig to change to Diagnostic Boot Mode. You must remember to change it back before rebooting though, or it will keep booting into Safe Mode.

Thank you for that. Tapping F8 bring on Safe Mode screen in Win7 and WinXP, but it requires a knack, because, as Vikingken points out, my computer is fast I have missed it a few times. I have been using Microsoft Security Essentials ever since Mikkh recommended it a few years ago and it is not available in safe mode. Ever since I started using it I have not had a virus, but that could also be a matter of luck. I have downloaded MBam and will try it just to see if it finds anything.
Happy New Year to all, I don't know what I would do without you.
Alex
