I'll be visiting the USA soon. Is it normally cheaper to buy software there ? (I'm also thinking of games ie The SIMS etc etc)
Regards

With the downturn here, I've been wondering similar. Everything was cheaper over there when we went in October, but some of our prices are dropping.

Yes it is - a lot cheaper. Hardware is miles cheaper too
High shipping costs stops most people buying from America, but that won't apply in your case

The current exchange rates dont make pretty reading with $100 worth £68, but with a lot of prices based on a straight dollar to pound ratio, it's still obviously cheaper ($100 was £50 or less previously)

It was about $1.6 to the pound when we went over, but even if it had been 1 to 1 some items were cheaper. I know it's not software, but I stocked up on smart clothes and no problems about getting smart larger sizes. I also bought a nice camera abour two thirds of the UK price; needed one anyway, so I waited until I got to Kmart. As our son is over there, I can get him to buy stuff and ship it, buy it and hang on for us to collect, or I can have it sent to his house to be forwarded. Get some of their super thermal underwear for next winter if you can, they do stuff for hunters that is brilliant.
Where are you going, Jiff?

The clothes are worth buying, especially if she's on the larger side, as I am. Men's stuff is good as well, my 6ft 5in rugby prop son bought his first off the peg suit after going over there.
It might be worth checking prices on the websites of suppliers and making comparisons before you go. Kmart are very cheap.

Software is a lot cheaper in the States. I sometimes buy it online and the postage isn't that much. They just stick the disk in an envelope and send it.

True postage to and from the states for a disk is little more than standard letter price, but soem companies do not ship to Europe, this is where I find my son is very useful.

If you look on eBay.co.uk and not eBay.com everyone who advertises ship to the UK. I have to do that as I have never had a kid who was useful for anything.

I hadn't an email for you since last May (or don't we talk about that) and you have been busy with your family. Yes it is Adam and a long story. He moved to Pittsburgh and got married, but not to Jane.
Please PM me the email I should be using now.
