Yes I should imagine so, but if you still have sound there's probably little point in doing so. I should imagine it's an advanced settings utility that the majority of people never use and it would be adding a useless extra program to your startup if you go back to the backup
The problem with restoring a backup, is that you'll also lose any stuff you installed recently (including updates) and you did say it was a while ago, so you'll be curing one minor little problem (that isn't really a problem if you still have sound) and gaining a lot of headaches which could include lost emails and data amongst other things

When i clicked this program that was sitting in the bar at the bottom of my desktop.
It used to open up like a tutorial, Where i could change the the sound from the speakers, Or i could set it for my headphone's
i could also get it to sound like cinema surround sound by clicking different box's as well
It was loaded on this laptop when i purchased it, i have running vista on it as well
but you could be right but i only want to use the back up disks as a last resort

Or you could just simply get the software back by going to the manufacturers web site
If you're not sure how to do that, post the make and exact model number and I or someone else will find it for you

THANK YOU VERY MUCH
For your help and time,
I think by going to the manufacturers web site first would be my best bet . TAR
