I checked out this link to Canon Linux support and they say the printer wont work with all flavours of Linux. If you check the list Debian distro isnt mentioned Monty. I expect there is a way to make it work, but that looks like a problem for Mikk. I can only see Suse and Fedora and I think I am right in saying that Mint is Debian based.

I think most things work on USB Monty, whether its Linux, Mac or Windows and its always a good standby. USB3 is an exception, I have things that wont work on it, although Bluetooth 3.1 isn't one of them on Windows. A lot of things cant be left plugged into USB3 and have to be unplugged and replugged to kick them into life. USB2 its plug it in and forget it.
Its the Bluetooth that falls down and I have read complaints that Mint 13 is more picky than Mint 12. If it can be done, Mikk will know how. Hes probably down the Trent trying to catch a tiddler for his Christmas dinner.

Still no go, I have Linux mint 14 Nadia to get to personal file sharing :-- System - preferences - bluetooth- receive files - receive files in download over bluetooth Thanks Lynnrose but I had already ticked that area, when you look at bluetooth canon printer it has a small padlock, locked, I am using Technika bluetooth which comes with a program for ms window to make contact with printer would that make a difference?,
Thanks Monty

Sorry Monty I got my numbers mixed up, its v. 14 is more picky than v.13. That MS Windows program can make a difference, if they don't make a Linux equivalent. Windows will normally connect Bluetooth without any extra software, sometimes Linux wont unless it has additional software. Linux isn't a cure all, 9 times out of 10 its a pain in the arse. Unless you know beforehand that all your peripherals are Linux compatible, forget it.

Hate to give up, but that's it, would like to have got it going, I will look around for a dongle without a program that will install it self, I have tried wine, it seems to install the programs but Linux wont see them. will keep trying but thanks for all your suggestions Monty

I dont think Bluetooth 3.1 uses software anyway Monty, but I bet you wont have any luck no matter what version you use. I think you need another flavour of Linux, to suit your hardware.
