Is there a firewall on my Virgin Superhub?
Can I switch off the Windows firewall?

Found it. It's there and on. Gonna switch off my Windows firewall. I seem to be getting silly delays every so often and they are really annoying.

It's a wireless router (hardware firewall) so yes you could switch off the Windows software firewall. It uses very little system resources and is one of the better behaved programs normally, so while it may help, I don't think it's the cause of your problems

Understand mikkh. I heard that having two firewalls active at the same time can cause problems. I was getting intermittant stalling in some high demand programs such as graphical games. (Since I have completely retired, I spend a lot of time playing online games. Mainly WoW at the moment. Beats TV!). The image was simply freezing for a few seconds. Since I turned off the Windows firewall I have to say, the problem seems to be gone. (Though how much on it being back after I post this. ) Be interested in your comments. But another thing springs to mind. My wife's computer is wireless, mine hard wired. If my wife turns off her Windows firewall and uses hers outside, she might be left with no firewall at all. Perhaps I should be turning off the Virgin. be really grateful for your comments.

Bit late now, Jojo, but even in hindsight the simple answer is for your wife to leave her Windoze firewall running - unless she's a WOW2 or COD3 freak too? LOL! #sdd3k6#

Thanks Jonnybee. You're right. I did figure it out but great to have two minds with the same conclusion. Think the heaviest application she uses is Skype. In between hours of chatting to whoever, she amuses herself with Spider Patience.
She did use an onliine game company who supplied a selection fo similar games, The name slips my mind. But their interface kept crashing and they bombarded her with adverts for yet more games which she didn't want!

Yeah, my "indoors" is addicted to Mecca bingo, MSN games and a whole rake of silliness - sort of makes my job as IT supremo just a little more difficult! I guess that's the price you pay for a little bit of peace and quiet!
