Hi guys and gals. Since installing the latest update to Ad-Aware I have been having nothing but trouble.I decided to uninstall it but on clicking the remove button in "add remove programs"nothing happened so I tried reinstalling it...again nothing happened, making me more determined to get rid. Could anyone give me a clue what to do next?? Its driving me nuts!

Once you get rid of it, forget about it. AdAware was very good several years ago, but now its about as good as a chocolate rocking horse. Try installing Super AntiSpyware and you will soon see what I mean.

I hate to correct Ken on technical matters, but I really must jump in here The phrase is 'as useful as a chocolate teapot' Apart from that, I agree with what he says

Yes exactly - that's the whole point
'as useful as' meaning totally useless, not fit for the purpose, no bloody good
It's rubbish, total caca, not fit to wipe my posterior on - pick your favourite one :-p

Yes Mikkh i was being sarcastic and it is my one talent "sarcastic is the lowest form of whit" so i must be very low ;D
sar·casti·cal·ly adv.
Synonyms: sarcastic, ironic, caustic, satirical, sardonic These adjectives mean having or marked by a feeling of bitterness and a biting or cutting quality. Sarcastic suggests sharp taunting and ridicule that wounds: "a deserved reputation for sarcastic, acerbic and uninhibited polemics" (Burke Marshall). Ironic implies a subtler form of mockery in which an intended meaning is conveyed obliquely: "a man of eccentric charm, ironic humor, andabove allprofound literary genius" (Jonathan

"A chocolate teapot," He said with acerbic and uninhibited polemics. Sounds better than, "I wiped my arse with a Mars bar."

Talking of technicalities... The rocking horse analogy is for rarity rather than usefulness. As rare as rocking horse sh**! Sorry I couldn't resist lol

I couldn't find a chocolate teapot nor any of the files suggested in the link proposed by Mikkh Perhaps that link refers to a previous version of Ad-aware?? I'm still stuck with ad-aware. Any other way to get rid guys please. ?

Click on Start, Run type in msconfig and click OK, Startup, take the tick out of AdAware and reboot. Then go into Add & Remove and it might uninstall.

Just go into Program Files and delete it, although you might have to do that in Safe Mode. Then if you have got it, run C Cleaner and it will eventually clean it out of the registry. If you haven't got it, download it here. www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/Latest version top right hand corner

* Try installing it again, then uninstall it by finding the Uninstall via All Programmes.
If that doesn't work.....
Try what it says here

AdAware SE was the old one that used to work well Lynnrose. Its AdAware Internet Security now. I dont know how old that forum is, but I think its being held together by a Zimmer frame.

Still cannot delete it Ken.message."cannot delete shellExt.dll. access denied". I tried it in safe mode too. Just the same. Asyou said Ken the information available seem to be all related to Ad aware SE.The files they refer to are just not there.I tried the link Lynnrose suggested but that was just the same. ......I thought I had retired a few years ago but it feels like I now have a full time job!!!! Can you find a System Restore point just before you installed the update and restore to it. Dont go back too far, or you might lose more programs than you want to. Thats all I can think of without taking you into the registry and I dont really want to do that, one mistake is all it takes. After the System Restore, take the old version straight out. Then open My Computer, right click on C:\ drive and select Properties, Tools and Check Disk. Tick both the repair boxes and reboot when asked. There is something not quite right and that should sort it out.

I did try the system restore before bringing the problem into C.I.T I tried exactly what you said but it would not delete.Although it is now switched off and not interfering with the computer (I don't think). I just want rid of the d**n thing.I would have a go at booting it out of the registry with your guidance. Sorry for taking up your time and I thank you for that .It is getting frustrating not being able to solve the problem Bill Read more: computertypes.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=admin&thread=4065&page=2#ixzz13TpTjAlF
