I've just had all my programs on my desktop disabled by XP Antispyware 2012. I did manage to system restore, after a while and am, for now, online again. Warning duly given, now I'm off to run all the AV software I can on top of Avast!

Don't run any other anti virus on top of Avast, it won't give you better protection, it will just lead to conflicts and slow your PC right down. There is no such thing as 100% protection, never was and never will be. The nearest you can get to it, is by running a MAC or using Linux.
You can have several anti-spyware programs running but never use two or more virus checkers

I am only running scans with the others, but I leave Avast to the main monitoring, until you tell me there's a better one.
