I am struggling to copy a couple of DVD's on my Windows 7 Home Premium machine. I have two DVD Drives on my machine which makes life easier (both are read and write) but I cannot seem to understand what to do using Windows Media Player.
I have previously used "CD Burner XP" which, despite the name is supposed to work with Windows 7 but I am afraid it doesn't.
Any help would be much appreciated.

I use CD Burner XP and have had no problems with it (I run Win 7 Pro)
You could try inserting the dvd you want to copy and opening it,
Then copy the contents to your desktop (into a folder) then using cd burner burn it
Drag and drop the folder in the Data Disc option and click burn I usually do it at the slowest speed
If the disc has a copy protection on it then you may have a problem !

Merchant, thanks, I may have a bad copy of CD Burner XP although I did download it from FileHippo. I'll delete it and try again.

I use W7 and CD Burner XP not had a problem yet. You can try uninstaling CD Burner XP the downloading another copy of CD Burner XP that may sort it out for you.

I think I had a corrupt blank disc. I tried a second one and all worked fine. I am pleased really because CD Burner XP has always worked well for me.

Hi buzzy,
This is a problem that has basically foxed me as well. Though I only have one DVD r/w drive.
I have tried to edit some DVDs I made myself, but can't seem to get anything to copy the files, other than as DVD stuff. I don't know if I can do a straight copy though.
Several programs I've tried have made copied of small bits. Sadly these come out in a small format with terrible resolution, not to mention that the sound is out of sync.
I'm pretty sure the powers don't want us to have too many opportunities in this direction to protect their precious copyrights of major movies.
I will also say that, I could, up until a few years ago, do this quite easily and there were a number of pretty good programs out there for this task. The programs have now disappeared and those that I can get don't work. I suspect that a Windows update has seen to that.
The only solution I can think of now is to load an old copy of XP onto a decent computer that I don't intend connecting to the net.
When I win the lottery (which I don't play), I intend to do just that.
Best of luck.

Hi jojo - despite it's name, CD Burner XP does actually work well on Windows 7 both 32 and 64 bit.

Understand, but I think you missed my point.
Programs that work perfectly well can stop working after updates. This is not new. It happened continually with XP.
You claimed that the program previously worked as intended but now doesn't. The conclusion is that an update has altered something. I suggest that it is probably some update to please some copyright owners.
Another example. I have a video/DVD/HDD made by Panasonic. Sadly, I made the choice to buy a non Panasonic TV to go with it. I also have a non-Panasonic cable box. All of these have the facility to update.
The way each of these actually works and interacts with each other is always changing. A program I recorded a while ago would only work on narrow screen, no matter what I did. Today, I tried that same recording and now it is on wide screen. But strangely, some other facilities are also working differently.
It's a bit like buying a house on the agreement that the builder can continually come in and change things. Or buying a car where the mechanic keeps a key so he can fiddle.
Such is the penality of new technology. We left ourselves open nto outside interference so outside interferance has arrived.

All sorted then buzzy. Great stuff. And an opportunity for a decent moan into the bargan. I'll read your threads more often. [/center]
