I have just managed to repair most of my system after a nasty infection, but Internet Explorer 8 is not fully functional. I cannot access Microsoft sites. Pages come up blank. On some other websites the pages are missing parts that are there when I use Firefox. I am running Win XP pro SP3.
Is there a way to re-instal IE but without going through the various Repair Tools that require registration and payment.
Thanks,
Alex

Thank you Buzzy. I think it is the Firewall that is stopping me seeing Microsoft sites, but I don't know how to change the settings or turn it off. By the way, I am running STOPzilla.
Any ideas,
Alex

StopZilla is an anti-spyware program NOT a firewall.

I would suggest that you do NOT turn your firewall off, you will only cause yourself more problems. I doubt that it is the Firewall causing your problems !

Hi, You seem to be having some bad luck since getting a bad infection and its gone on for a week now. If I get a bad virus and have any trouble afterwards, I simply reinstall everything. I dont keep anything I cant afford to lose on my laptop, so its no problem to wipe the drive clean. It might take me a while to reinstall, but Windows 7 is quicker than XP. It isn't so long ago I was using XP and I did it then. I dont have much on my laptop except security and Office, so it doesn't take very long. It is quicker than taking a week to try any repair and not really getting anywhere. Luckily security is getting better and bad infections are getting rarer. It does happen to the best computers and a clean installation never fails to fix them. I cant afford to spend a week trying to repair a problem. Good luck in your venture.
David
