I have just been into a PC shop and was told the Free version of AVAST antivirus DETECTS viruses but does NOT remove them.
Is this true?

It puts them into Quarantine then you can delete them your self

PCWorld eh, that is a surprise. I think our friend forgot part of his script though
1) Convince customer free antivirus is poor or downright rubbish
2) Point out the bargain price on Norton Antivirus at the moment
