java/cve2010 0840dDR virus ?

hi there fols and good morning to each and everyone. I have windows xp, and reconnected to the internet 6days ago....... A full scan was done and came up that all was well ( lol )
.approx 2 days later I got a message to install the latest java update, and remembering that I needed this programme to play on yahoo games site, i downloaded it.
Then 2 days later while having my lovely sunday dinner, I let the miscrosoft security essentials, ( which i had been using before logging off in June ) do another full scan. i am now informed that2 critical virus where found names
java/cve 2010 0840DR and java/cve 2010 0840DT, where found.
I clicked on the remove button.................My main question today is Do i really need this java programme. the yahoo game sites can be forgotten about. I did a java enquiry ref their name on virus whcih read

SYMPTOMS

According to my anti-virus client software a malicious virus appears to have been downloaded with my Java download from java.com.


CAUSE

If you have an older version of a signature file in place for your anti-virus client software or your specific anti-virus client software vendor may have failed to include into their latest signature file that the current version of Java is not a virus, it may therefore result in a false-positive state, where you are led to believe that you may have downloaded a virus with your latest version of Java software.


SOLUTION

We recommended that you update your anti-virus signature file or contact your anti-virus client software and advise them of the false-positive statement from your anti-virus client software. )I have this morning dis abled further updates from the java site, in the hope that not having java wont be a great loss.

Folks...........I am sorry for the very very long post, butmade some attempt to try and see what these 2 could do, then read above about something called false positive, which was as clear as mud

Hey Harry, we are not ignoring you!
Just wanted you to know that.

I haven't had time to check out your query properly and going offline now, but I have never had problems with Java, so it seems a shame that you feel you need to stop playing the games that require it.

Anyway, I hope to look into it some more tomorrow unless another member can offer some suggestions.

Hi again,
Remove old versions of Java, then download latest version

Make sure your anti-virus and Firewall are up-to-date and all should be well.
You need to have Java on your PC really, as certain websites etc won't work without it.

Why not set your Java updates to update automatically.

Start > Control Panel > Java > Update Tab and check "Update Automatically. Ensure you are notified before downloading.

thank you lynrose , buddy and everyone spending their time reading this post............well well well........lol what a day tuesday 6th was..............Approx 20 mins after posting the top message I lost the internet connection..........I did the usual checking that cables where connected properly, did the turn off bit, waiting 3 minutes as usual, the new modem installed less than 7 days earlier evuntually came on with all 5 green lights stable...............I then was connected. lol well not really because approx 60 seconds later...........lost the connection again.........I repeated the procedure 3 times and each time....on for a minute than all 3 of the 5 lights flickering............w hile trying ( albeit not too well to keep the blood pressure down ) the 3rd time sitting on the floor with the modem checking yet again the cables I thought............." do I really want this hassle for the next 18 months of the new contract ? ... nay "...............So off downstairs lifted the phone to Virgin, and cancelled the broadband...............i am typing this out from my local library this morning................i just couldnt be bothered.

Some days earlier when I was a happy Harry I did delete old Java updates...........installed the latest, then a few days later on a full scan MSE found the above 2 crititical virus things.

So bye bye internet from home lol never mind the yahoo games

Awwww, what a shame that your experience of getting back online at home has caused you to give up again
