I am struggling to get a further update.I have read that there could be a problem with this: 'TR/Spy.Spatet.BC'.Is there somewhere I can get a free scan to try to indentify any problems?

I uninstalled and installed version 5.0.1118 and it also keeps giving a pop up to update to a newer version.Anyone know if I can find out if there is a problem with this and if it's genuine?

The latest version is 5.0.1108, according to their product release page here Joerey. And on post 6 of this thread on their forum posted on the 16th, the Admin, SAS_Dave mentions it as being a very minor update. Hope that helps.

It might be worth trying to repair Avast.
In your control panel, depending on your system, click either add and remove programs, or programs and features, and highlight Avast. Click Uninstall/Change, then when the box pops up click the bottom option repair.

From what I have been reading, you might have one of these viruses that disable all the security, as its more than one thing that is giving trouble. I'm afraid you will need a techie to tell you how to deal with it, if that is the case.

If it ran and updated properly, you're probably clean. You could try combofix to double check. majorgeeks.com/Combofix_d6402.html(click the 'download@Author's site' link) NOT any download buttons which will be adverts)

Elvis me ole mate; one of the quickest ways to figure out if there's something going on (that you don't know about) is to use the running processes tab in Taskmanager. I use it all the time so I'm used to what should be there and what shouldn't; however if you're not sure what all those processes are, try www.answersthatwork.com and look through the list; every entry has an explanantion of what it is, where it comes from and what it does - and there's several hundred of 'em!

You're very welcome, M8! Hope you'll be able to learn something from it - once you get familiar with what SHOULD be running, it makes finding nasties that much easier! By the bye, what is the 'NUVI'?

Well I'm still none the wiser as to what the letters signify Elvis, but I doubt it really matters anyway - just curious. As for people who rip the mick out of other site members, for WHATEVER reason, they are the ultimate losers, and you're right to ignore them. Tek it steady, M8!
