Same pic posted 3 times in 2 minutes Elvis, that's got to be a new record. ;D Seriously though, TinyPic has been a bit funny today, it kept telling me that last .jpeg I was trying to post was the wrong type of file, then on the fourth try it was accepted.

Its a reproduction of Stevenson's Rocket Nocky, I don't think they ever fire up the original anymore. Some of the standing engines they run on compressed air and not use the boiler, but thats a bit hard to do with a loco. Its not the pressure, compressed air doesn't lubricate and I don't think anyone wants to run along side with an oil can. Its a pity, because the boiler was the only weakness. The engines would run forever. They have got 200 year old beam engines that still work, fantastic pieces of machinery. Admitted, I think they only do about 120 stokes per hour flat out.

Cheers KC, very interesting. I think a couple of the old tin mines in Cornwall still have working beam engines.

Richard Trevithick was Cornish Nocky and he invented the high pressure steam engine. His first locomotive ran in 1804, so that would be over 200 years old now. I dont know if its still around, I think it blew up and killed a couple of fellers. The old Boulton and Watt beam engines, had been working in the pits long before that and I think there's a couple still working.

I could have given you a picture of a steam train, got dozens; hubby was one of the last steam firemen and is a real train buff.

Very good cut-outs KC, but for me, they look a bit bare on their own. A little bit of background would make a difference. Just my opinion. Nice "plastic" looking effect Elvis. Still getting that invalid file nonsense from TinyPic.
