A you may know. My Contacts List has been Hi-Jacked and someone is sending mail on my behalf please ignore.
Apparently it's a new advertising Scam they take contact from peoples lists and send these e-mails on the basis if you get a reccomendation from somebody you know they are more likely to buy whatever crap they're trying to offload.
Sorry for the inconvenience.

I think you know if I wanted a pair of glasses Rog, I would go to Spec Savers. I didn't think it was from you, unless you have started typing with a foreign accent.

I ignore all crap emails :-p
I'm getting a bit worried about one of my email accounts though. I could once rely on 50+ spam messages a day, now I'm only getting 4 or 5 a week. I've only had that account 11 years, so better late then never for them to tighten up their spam filters !

Trouble is the fact that it's Hotmail my Contacts List isn't held on my HDD so the only way it could have been Hijacked is via the MSN Servers. Or, am I missing something?

I could open a free email account Roger and anyone receiving an email would think its from your Hotmail account. Its not that hard to do, but I wont say how its done. A lot of people forward emails and leave all address's on, so it wouldn't be hard to get hold a list of peoples address's and I could use anyone on that list to pull the trick off. It looks like your address book has been compromised, but it hasn't. I'm not saying your account hasn't been hacked, but there are other ways. Its best to play it safe and assume it has.

My main Hotmail account got done (but the other 2 were not) sent spam messages to all my contacts, only noticed when I got return emails stating I was spamming.
1st time it ever happened to me and I factory restored both off my computers.

Its happen to me also. I have a hotmail account that I have had for a decade already and its been hacked repeatedly and used to send my contact list spam emails. After the third try (in nearly as many days) I finally just deleted the contact list off of that account and started using my supersonicdave.com email address. At least that's on a privately hosted server which would be alot harder to track down, much less hack. To keep tabs on this sort of thing, you should keep your own address on your contact list so that they will also send you the spam messages.

I've had a few slide under the door over the years, but it's never really become a problem for me because I've always used Incredimail as an e-mail client. I've four main addys, BYonder, Snotmail, Gmail and Ymail, all of which are configured to drop messages to my email client via the default address; when opened, Incredimail interrogates each server in turn and downloads any new mails to my desktop, then deletes them from the relevant servers. The beauty of this setup is that I'm using their servers as my spam filter, so once the filters recognise various keywords, they're automatically deleted before I can even access them. All I have to do is go round tidying up once a month to get rid of the rubbish - poifect!
