I suppose the speed cost is only one component. Download allowance must be where the extra costs would be incurred. 100mbs only £10 a month in Bournemouth!!!!! I wouldn't say no to 100mbs, but if I got 20mb consistently from BT I'd be happy. Gigabit broadband arrives in the UK Posted on 24 Feb 2010 at 14:25The 1Gbit/sec service obliterates the previous maximum speed available in Britain, which was 100Mbits/sec via BT's fibre-to-the-premises lines

All very nice but even with my 20Mbs broadband on which I never really get below about 14Mbs I still wait forever for about 80% of the sites I visit to serve me the content.

It don't matter how fast your connection is, you cant suck data out of a server. If your running a website and have got lots of servers, you are going to be reluctant to spend a lot of money to upgrade them all. Popular servers have got thousands of people trying to grab a download and it puts a hell of a strain on the servers. The more people the slower things are going to be and the fastest computers in the world are still only going to get their share. It gets to a point where its just not worth paying for the extra speed. Your only paying for speed you are never going to use. Its like paying a million pounds for the fastest road car in the world and using it in the UK where the fastest you can legally go is 70 miles per hour. Even the cheapest banger will catch up with you, while your waiting at the traffic lights.

Apparently they are now testing 200Mbps! Makes my 50 Mbps seem slow! (I suppose to be correct that should be "Up To" 100 or 200)
